Gutter cleaning in RothesayRothesay Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) held a ‘Maintenance Week' from 20-27 November 2009 to kick-start their THI project.

The key event was an educational day at Rothesay Castle where Historic Scotland employees were on hand to offer their expertise on the importance of repairing and maintaining historic buildings, and how best to do so.

The educational day was the first in a series of events designed to promote and develop Rothesay's Stage 2 bid for a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant.

Among the other events planned are exhibitions, workshops, construction skills training and heritage trails.

The Rothesay Castle event also gave local people the chance to meet Lorna Pearce, the new THI Project Officer who said that "Maintenance Week was the perfect opportunity to get some expert advice about building repairs and to learn more about the potential of the THI and how residents can take part in securing its sustainable future."

Argyll and Bute Council also played its part in Maintenance Week by clearing gutters in the THI area of debris and vegetation. This vital work, undertaken from cherry pickers, will make sure that the properties are ready to face the worst of the winter weather.
